Short clip of Bonham's drumming abilities at the end of Dazed & Confused, taken from the dvd The Song Remains The Same.
Earlier versions of this dvd (like the one with the guitar on the cover) did not have the correct speed, infact it wasn't untill 2007 that a dvd with the correct speed/pitch was released. This clip is from that 2007 dvd (black cover with drawings from scenes in the film). The clip has already been posted on YouTube in it's earlier form, and has sparked a lot of comments about it being/not being sped up. Since I hate seing fellow fans of the great Bonham fighting, I thought I would try to put an end to it :)
The difference between this and the earlier video is in fact so tiny ( yeah, he was THAT good), that you might have to watch the videos side by side to see it.
For more info on these differences between audio/video/speed/pitch, I recommend this site: http://www.thegardentapes.co.uk/tgt.html

  • played both vids the same time, didnt notice alot of differense maybe like 1/3 of a second

  • @aczeppelindc2908 Yeah there really isn't that big of a difference. Doesn't make it any less impressive, but it is enough to make his moves seem unnatural in the other video... or at least that's what i think.

  • Typically fantastic Bonham drumming. However,he was even more powerful during the European 73 tour. He was simply crushing the drums. The band were in a groove from another world in Germany just three months prior to the taping of TSRTS.

It should also be noted that Bonham's sense of context, spacing and what he DIDN'T play within a song made him the extraordinary drummer that he was. HIs fills were brilliant, tasteful and not overdone.

  • That triplet @ :19, right before Robert's scream, is to die for! BONZO is the greatest! And thank you, BTW, for posting the "correct" version... it does clarify the speed issue!

  • i'm speechless!!

  • not speed up..it is possible to do..bonham was a master, and the best thing about it is,its as easy as going to the corner shop for eggs..if you know how its done your halfway there.

  • At any speed, the coordination of his moves transcends most drummers..

  • It's just that the version on that other video is in the PAL format, which is 4% faster than the NTSC version which is in correct speed.

  • it just seems a little speeded up because he was bursting for a piss at the time..

  • Anybody who says Bonzo isn't a great drummer has to explain this away.

  • @Kasbis yea, your video is best anyways
