Installing a new double track level crossing at Saint Georges Road level crossing in Avondale, New Zealand, Sunday 10th January 2010. This was one of the last remaining single track sections between Auckland and Swanson which has been gradually double tracked from 2004 to 2010 to enable ten minute service frequency of suburban passenger trains. Auckland's rail passenger users have increased from 2.5 million in 2004, to almost 8 million in 2009, and the region has set itself a goal of achieving 25 million passengers by 2020 through initiatives such as the $600 million Project DART, $50 million ERTMS signalling project, and an almost $1 billion electrification project, including a fleet of new trains.
Wow! Unbelievable but welcome growth in passenger numbers! Way to go!
A rough estimate of Auckland's population please...
