Your misunderstanding what im saying. Over porting will make the head Dead. ( wont breath) .Take a Straw! if its to small you get Velocty but ya cant get alot of air! if its to big! you get more air but low Velocty.. There is a Fine line in porting out heads!
-
it won't choke out, but it'll make all its power in the high end. size of intake (smallest diameter) directly proportional to torque curve position. wider = higher rpm
-
you know porting to much might mess up the air speed/velocty. you know chokeing your motor :)

Hi, Mr "have a go" here! I know this was a car head, but I've a spare cylinder head for my bike that I was thinking of porting (smooth the area around the values and "flow" the exhaust port). Bit optimistic, but any basic tips? A friend reckoned that I should leave the inlet port alone as any sharp edges might be there to encourage "swirl" to mix the air/fuel mixture? Assume that when doing the valve area I should; avoid valve seats and take as little material away from the compression area? Ta!

Well, where do I start? - it really depends on what you have got, you say it is a bike engine, but that is a pretty wide subject! - Is it a C50 or a Blade or a 'Busa? - Most bike engines are already pumped to the max with what you can do to them performance wise (for the amateur at least!) - This is even not mentioning how much time & money the Japanese have spent on Inlet tuning & Helmholtz resonators - (google it!) - as most sports bike airboxes are...

GUIDES WONT LAST LONG LIKE THAT

I am impressed that you can determine the wear duration on the valve guides from this video. If you can let me know your technique I would be greatly appriciative, as it will save me a lot of time in the future... (by the way they are not fitted to the head in this video) :)

DID YOU LEAVE THE GUIDES STOCK THEN ?
tomachevski 5 years ago
Pardon my Jovial response, - please take it in the vein it is meant! - But to answer your question, the guides are not stock, we have developed them to be in-keeping with the design specification of the whole engine. This means we have shortened them to maximise flow throughout our designed for rpm of the whole system. I would point out that this means a compromise has been made between longevity & performance.
