If you ever bought or sold a security on the New York Stock Exchange, participated in a mutual fund, done business with a member of the Fortune 2000, or flown in a commercial aircraft, odds are you have already experienced the power of Sybase e-Business software. For companies around the world, Sybase means e-business. This is the IT behind the NYSE. When you look at the way technology is going on the New York Stock Exchange, what we see is just an acceleration of the pace of change, an acceleration of the volumes that we have to put through the same physical plant with the same number of people. The fundamental requirement is that the training professional needs to have the data at their fingertips. If you are two seconds behind the other guy, you lose. I think Sybases track records here really show that their capability is rather fluid. When it comes to high speed, high volume, mission critical transactions, Sybase provides the industrial strength software e-business demands. Jefferies and Company is an investment bank and brokerage firm. Jefferies customers are institutions. They are companies that invest on behalf of individuals. Sybase is really at the hub of our trading systems. Speed, getting down to the floor out to our floor brokers; they utilize the hand held technology, that whole infrastructure; Sybase is our repository, our database that houses all the critical trading information. It is critical to us, from a database platform, that we can achieve that speed. Reliability is also key to us. We need to have really a high degree of confidence that when we come in in the morning and the market is open that our technology will be there for us. Day after day, Sybase has proven itself to be that reliable engine for us. Aviall is the worlds largest independent distributor of aircraft parts. We have over 180 suppliers and over 17,000 customers. We move very, very fast. This is a fast moving industry. Our commitment to e-business and to supply chain management is at the core of what we do. If we dont have the most sophisticated planning, forecasting, inventory management, inventory control tools, which are all ranked real time via Sybases new era of networks, we are out of the game. Nothing has changed, but it is very different. We have always had difficulty with integrating many applications, but with enterprise application integration and in particular the product Sybase offers, the difference is now you can do it. BMC is one of the largest independent software companies in the world. Many of the Fortune 500 use our software Patrol to manage their enterprise. The Sybase database is embedded in our Patrol and allows us to provide the soul of our repository to handle millions of events and alerts stored in the Sybase database. It can really give a window to enterprise, a window to the soul of the corporation. The software and the applications you have are only as good as the data that it has access to and it is critical that the database be reliable, be fast, be capable, be secure and Sybase provides those capabilities. The challenge is to handle, to handle innovation, while never compromising on the reliability. I suspect that if you went out and looked at a number of firms on the New York Stock Exchange, you would find an awful lot of it is coming out of application that runs on Sybase. Sybase has proven itself to be a scalable and reliable platform for us that allow us to grow our business. The heartbeat of our technology is Sybase and new era of networks; it connects everything. Its the ability to handle that, and to handle that in a reliable way that provides a worry free environment, that at a low cost of ownership is a blessing to an IT administrator and Sybase does that in spades. From databases to integration solutions, from financial services to health care, from mainframes to cell phones, from Wall Street to the Peoples Republic of China, Sybase continues to gather momentum, delivering information anywhere, and proving everything works better when everything works together.
