This guy knew exactly what he was catching he was from the coastal community. Everyone know thats the only fish that gets that big here in so cal. No wonder the fish died. I almost want to blame myself - if i was on the pier id had tackled the poacher and tipped off the DFG and claimed my 20% bounty....
NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS REMEMBER TO REPORT IT -- YOU CAN COLLECT A BOUNTY FROM THE DFG FOR POACHERS ...

as an angler, it is your responsibility to know the rules and regulations. There is a book available for free at most fishing tackle retailers.
You should never take a fish that large out of the water unless you intend to kill it. Just like sturgeon. You cannot remove them from the water if they are oversized.
This guy didnt know the rules or just didnt care. Im glad he tried to save the fish, but removing it from the water did it for the fish.
Read the book!!!!!!
