Highlights from our recent iPad Workshop: Apps for Special Needs Students by Vicki Windman.

About Rebecca School: Rebecca School is a therapeutic day school for children ages 4 to 21 in New York City, promoting the education and development of children with neurodevelopmental disorders of relating and communicating, including PDD and autism.

Mission: Every student with neurodevelopmental delays in relating and communicating deserves the opportunity for an educational program that recognizes their individual potential.

Using a developmental and interdisciplinary approach, Rebecca School creates a program that meets students' unique needs, celebrates their strengths and embraces their passions.

At Rebecca School, building meaningful, respectful relationships is the foundation for learning. With collaboration between school, home and the community, the learning goes beyond the classroom.

Our goal is to move a student up the developmental ladder to become thinking, relating communicating members of his/her community.

We utilize the Developmental Individual Differences Relationship-based (DIRĀ®) model. The DIRĀ® Methodology developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan proceeds from the core belief that relationships are the foundation of learning. At Rebecca School, we consider the variations in individual motor and sensory processing systems and tailor each child's program to his or her specific needs. There is no "one-size-fits-all" for children with neurodevelopmental delays in relating and communicating. Each child has unique strengths to be developed and limitations to be remediated. Our goal is not to fit the child to the program but to fit the program to the child.
