Townshend's music can be understood to be rebellious with a lot of self awareness, definitely edgy. I have to agree, his lyrics are much deeper than just being another rock and roll song. He is the original concept album king with both Tommy and Quadrophenia. I consider Quaedrophenia the greatest rock album of our time.

Agreed that Pete is up there. Funny, Richards relied on Jagger, McCartney on Lennon, Page on Plant, and vice versa. However, Pete stood all alone writing what many considered the most amazing music out there...IMO and others too.
