This 90 sec commercial aired only once on NBC's "ER" on December 6, 1996 That same day, General Motors began leasing the world's first practical electric car, the EV1. The EV1 was the first and only vehicle release with a GM nameplate and was offered in California and Arizona through Saturn dealers. Wildly popular among those lucky enough to lease one, the EV1 had a sad demise when GM discontinued the program and crushed most of the cars.

GM has redeemed itself with the incredible extended range electric car, the Chevrolet Volt. First deliveries of the Volt to customers will take place in December 2010.

  • GM has cleared the other production out of the factory where the Volt is built and they are going to have high volume production now. I absolutely love my Volt and so does everyone who owns one. It won the JD Power award for highest customer satisfaction for that size of car.

  • The Volt is awesome! Zero problems after 7 months of driving. I've taken it on long trips that would have been difficult/impossible with my EV1. I loved my EV1 and hated to give it up. The Volt is a far better car. Remember, the EV1 was a 2 seater, the Volt a 4 seater. EV1's had plenty of battery issues, the Volt has none. I feel for Leaf drivers who need to be cautious about their drives. I don't even think about it. If I need to go beyond the charge, no problem! But I rarely do.

  • A lot of people wish they had an EV1. Too bad most were "recycled" but at least a few remain, most non-operational. The EV1 I leased was saved and is on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

The Chevy Volt is a worthy successor, an amazing vehicle. I now own one of my own.

  • Priceless!

  • @DerAdventurer Obviously you don't know much about the Volt. It only runs on gasoline when the battery charge is depleted. A smart smart move on GM's part. I haven't put gas in the tank of my Volt since Thanksgiving, and have accumulated 3,500 miles. Obviously I have used very little gasoline. It's nice to have the safety backup in case I want to drive further than the battery will take me. The Volt is a great car.

  • @Laurenxorz cant wait for there to be an Amp

  • @Volterrific the volt is sexy i wanted one since the day it came out (:

  • i wish i wouldve seen this on TV!

  • @Volterrific I was never an EV driver but a big fan. I'm still having issues with the volt. Isn't it kind of a slap in the face to all of the Ev-1 drivers? It seems to me like GM added insult to injury giving the volt only a 40 mile range before it has to use gas espically when they had a car that went 120 miles with NO GAS AT ALL back in 1996. Not trying to fight just curious.

  • @Volterrific I've known about the Chevy Volt. Interesting to hear opinion about the car. I only don't find it as handsome as the EV, which looks more modern(in style design) than Volt.

    Still, thanks for sharing.

  • @Volterrific The Chevy Volt is a worthy successor? Are you mad?! IT RUNS ON GASOLINE! Some innovation that is! Maybe they should have gone one step further, eh? Maybe their so-called "electric car" should have been powered by a coal fired steam engine filled with children's tears.
