One of the traditional ways to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami in Mumbai is for gangs of revellers to form human pyramids reaching upto 8, 9 or even 10 layers high to reach for a pot of curd (Dahi Handi) hung high above the street. While it's mostly men who form the tall pyramids, women actively participate too. Here's a group of women trying their luck at a Dahi Handi in Dadar, Mumbai.

It is a festival and things may seem a bit stupid to you becuase you don't know the story behind why it is done. It is just like the European bulls and tomato fight festival which seems stupid to some. Peace.
