its very simple, you will believe everything you are taught from childhood to believe, much like people who had been taught the world has been flat, believed it.
when you live in a closed community like a religion it is very hard to get out, much like a cult, religion makes you dependant on it, in that everyone who does not conform risks losing relationships, and even risks losing his\her family. that is the reason why religion hadn't been affected by science discovery.

I heard this argument played out dozens of times before, but now that I've heard it from monotone "cartoon" animals, I think it's clever and funny! Wait... No, I have a brain stem.

I work with a woman on a daily basis who starts off any conversation on any socio-political topic with "I'm a Christian so..." Ugh. We get it already, you don't need to advertise it all the time. Unfortunately everything else she says is pretty much exactly this.
