11 mile rollercoaster ride on the Ffestiniog Railway's gravity train. From 1836 this was the way slate from Ffestiniog made it to the sea with horses pulling empty wagons back up the Vale. In teh 1860s the line was modernised to steam.
When the railway opened in 1836 it was powered by gravity with horses in a dandy wagon to pull it back up the mountain. It was modernised to steam in the 1860s. We released the brakes at a gradient of 1 in 80 and down we went. Needed a push to cross the mile long Cob / embankment at the bottom of the line.
Wish I could do this.
