  • Is this truck fast at all? What kind of fuel mileage does it get? I'm debating on doing either a Detroit 453 Suburban or a Cummins 6bt Suburban. Seems like you can do a lot more with the Cummins

  • @willDANCEforPENNIES Its an 84 gmc truck...its not a racecar and wasnt built to be. It does 87 wide open. If your looking for speed, stick with the cummins. I didnt go cummins because they are everywhere and come factory in pickups already.. I like unique and didnt want my truck to sound like just another dodge driving by. If you want something unique, that turns heads everywhere it goes and is ear splittingly loud, go with the detroit ;) the 23 mpg around town im getting doesnt hurt either!

  • Have you got to plow any snow with it yet?

  • @therealpope79 Yea i did for a little while. The tires suck in the snow and im a busy guy with that old fisher plow setup and a standard trans. Other than that it wasnt too bad lol.

  • Congratulations on your DD Chevy truck! Most excellent build, coming from a Ford Truck guy....your Chevy is superb! I would like to do a 3-71 conversion on a .....Ahem, Early seventies..Ford F-250. The Detroits are in a class all by themselves, no one comes close. What was your biggest obstacle to your build...my research points to transmission choices. What about the Allison AT ??

  • @RichardEllisxyz Thanks! It has a 3 inch suspension lift to get the oil pan clear of the front axle, and 3 inch body lift to get the cab over the trans valve cover, that was the first obstacle. I think it would have been much easier in a 2 wheel drive truck,no axle to deal with in the front. I personally would definitely try to find an overdrive trans... to get yourself some road speed, thats the hard part. Ive heard some trucks barely cracking over 50mph without an overdrive.

  • In a way this super bad ass truck almost has the sound of a motorcycle!

  • what are you running for a tranny?

  • I have some 53 series jacobs engine brakes on ebay this week. search detroit diesel jake brakes

  • @bret2sd Yea lol. It was a re-man.. Fixed that now, someone over greased the rear bearing in the alternator housing, so grease was getting all over the brushes.

  • @DRNEGOLICIS Nope, Clark 5 speed overdrive.
