  • Haunting. Utterly haunting. This was used in PBS's Donner Party episode of American Experience and comes in a few times. Most notably when the Donner Party was encountering its first serious trouble. It is so moving.

  • Bandalamenti is a true genius. this is beautiful.

  • I don't think the Donner Party measures up to this work. Burns as usual is overreaching on his American History propaganda. How about an elegy –– not for the people who mistakenly misjudged the weather in the Rockies -- but for the MILLIONS of innocents the US government has killed around the world

  • @ferdydurke6 You are way way off on Wild at Heart, a true masterpiece.

  • @goodkarma33 So much more than the Donner Party. More suitable to Brownings, The Ring and the Book.

  • @SanFernandoCurt It is so much greater than Ken Burns or the Donner Party!

  • Haunting elegiac beåutiful. As incredible as Antonioni's Adågio. Who cares about Ken Burns? It was written for David Lynch's masterpiece Wild at Heart If that movie doesn't excite you, break your heart, frighten you, make you låugh, you are missing out. Viva Badalenti, Viva David Lynch. You are the greatest

  • One of the finest pieces to come out of 20th century. If you told me it was written in the 18th century, I never would have doubted it. The Donner Party is epic to this piece, it almost seems the tragedy had to happen so that this music could be applied to it.

  • When I say, almost 20 years ago, Ken Burns' documentary on the Donner Party, I was struck by this overture. Researching it and finding out it originated with "Wild at Heart", I was disappointed for some reason. Seeing that movie in interim, I think it fits much, much better with Burns' subject. Somehow, with it's Spanish lilt, it just says "tragic early California".
