William (Bill) Beason former SKA (Shotokan Karate of America) member and direct student of Errol Bennett Sensei of NYC, fights Derek Williams at an open tournament in NYC during the mid 1980's. Bill was one of East Coast's best at that time. He is the nephew of ASKA's Chief Instructor Jackson Sensei. Bill's karate beginnings where humble, but proud. He started his training in the basement of his Uncle's house in the Bronx, New York; before training under Bennett Sensei in 1974. Bill retired from karate in 1992. You are truly missed...Your biggest fan, your Uncle Jackson Sensei.
i will see if i can post some more vintage 80s and 90s video of fighters from the NYC NJ area...look for tags fontanez, kevin thompson, bill beason, new york point karate, im waiting on someone to send me some videos that are from that era. Beasons style changes depending on who hes fighting...more rigid for traditional...more bouncy for non traditional fighter such as J. Nunez

As a young student under Reno Moralez in the late 70's 80's, I had the privilege to see Derrick, Lil Ka, Billy Beason, Fred Miller in local tournaments in the NYC area. Derrick was the best Kata man out there while Billy and KA were the better at fighting. J nunez was as flexible as they came. Derricks student Kendu Alah and Eva Aguilera were also awesome. Other standouts were Andre Brown, Master Breaker and Llamar Thorton. I'm 44 now and get the itch to make a come back at senior.

I was a young student (7-11yrs old) of the school on 233rd st from 88-91?, Bill was amazing to watch, fast & powerfull & he whistled when he fought, like a GTI changing high gear whistle. I wouldn't want to fight him.

Derrick William, Kevin (lil KA) Thompson, Bill Beason, all was in Super Jrs together. Derrick was best know for his katas. But he was a Kata man who could fight. Derrick Travel more in the New York, Conn, NJ area. Derrick wasn't one of Errol Bennett Students. He trained with a few people the older one were Nat McBride and Reno Morales.

I enjoyed that one! I don't remember Derrick Williams. Did he train at Bennett's as well?

Billy Beason was a very feared competitor on the East Coast. If you strapped with him, you knew you were in a fight. He was a member of the NightLife Karate Team for a very short time and later became a member of the Miller Lite Karate Team.

In those days, the rep was better than the trophy. Glad to have fought with Derrick many times since we were young shodans together. There is nothing like a good traditional hard style vs hard style. anyone please post other videos if available from NY 70s'90's. "Much Respect to Derrick"
