Getting ready for the Kids' Detour 2008, we paint some river rocks like fish to see how this will be as an activity for kids. It's fun!

  • I love painting rocks. It is so therapeutic.

  • We'll give that a try. This batch I put several coats of acrylic spray varnish. We're working on the next batch as you suggested. Thanks!

  • I like the magical colors and designs!

I have a comment on putting them in the garden: Don't use varnish. Use thick acrylic paint, one or two coats, then put it out there unvarnished. I mean if you are thinking about using water-based varnish. the varnish clings to the paint and it soaks up water and the whole thing will peel.

Maybe try acrylic spray varnish, but unvarnished acrylic is pretty tough. I've had my purple monster out by my front porch for many years.

  • Gorgeous rich, vibrant colors. Beautiful!

How many coats of acrylic make them last in the garden?
