  • I just watched again, and yes, it's a Mateki 06 C-foot with Powell "Boston" headjoint, but I've sold these.

I found the Powell good for a big American sound, but not easy to control at "pppp".

    Best, J.

  • cont'd........

The one I picked is silver with gold riser and gold lip-plate, but I don't necessarily think it's the gold that's doing it; simply the cut of the headjoint and the QUALITY of Nagahara.

In the past I've used a Powell Boston headjoint, Sankyo headjoint, and of course the Altus headjoints that came with my two Altus intermediate level flutes.

Yes, the Nagahara is richer, but one of my Altus headjoints sounds almost exactly the same. So shop around.

    Best, J.

  • Thanks veronikakondi,

I can't remember what headjoint I'm using in this performance. However the Nagahara I have was chosen from among 8-10 different ones, and really stood out, so I advise you to find a flute shop that has many to try.

  • Yes, I know. The composer is so beautifully love-sick, I feel. Very sweet, and yet a bit cheeky and smart. Love it too. J.

  • Thanks for the compliment. J. :>)

  • Jenn,.... Perfect! it maid me cry! awsome tone and projection. What flute brand do you play on?

  • I'm not sure, but I think this was a Mateki 06 body with a Powell boston head. I don't play on those anymore. Prior to that it was a Sankyo Silver Sonic B-foot. Now I play Altus with Nagahara headjoint. I change about every 5-10 years. J.

  • Wonderful interpretation!!!! I am practising the Histoire du Tango right now, and your performance serves as the role model. You and Scott bring such a liveliness and sweetness to the pieces. I am thinking of buying the Nagahara headjoint. Is this the one you were using? May you give me the exact description because I really need a new headjoint, please? I am using Powell for with my Muramatsu Flute but would like to buy the one you are using. Thank you. Love, Vero.

  • It's been so long since I listened to this. Makes me so happy, but I still want to cry somehow when I hear it!

  • Absolutely beautiful---I played Cafe 1930 on Tuba for my Master's Recital---I love Piazzolla. Great job, and great performance.
