Families from Ramingining in the bush camping for the day and partaking in magpie goose (gurrumattji), nyangura (long-neck turtle) and dhatam (waterlily roots). Some people who can be seen here: Djinipuru, Waniwani, Balupalu, and Djutarra.

  • It looked like the goose was tossed on ungutted and undressed (or plucked, rather). When it came off the coals it was clean. I guess the feathers just singed off...and no worries about cooking the organ meat separately by that method! :)

  • Usual method is for the feathers to be plucked then the down singed off on a fire. After that, the bird can be cooked in a ground oven as is, or it can be cut in half, organs removed and cooked separately, and then for the carcass to be cooked on hot coals. Lovely!
