Smyrna, izmir, In Memory of cosmopolitical Smyrna 1

"The little refugee" Markos Melkon both sings und plays outi in this recording, made in the USA around 1950.The melody follows the hicazkiar mode.
All pictures originate without exception from Smyrna. They reflect the multi-ethnical landscape, show importend buildings and sights of Smyrna before 1922. You also see the different quarters, parts and suburbs of the city, like "Karatas - Melantia", "Göztepe - Enopi", "Pagos - Kadifekale", "Karsiyaka - Kordelio", "Kokaryali" (Near of Göztepe), "Buca" and "Bornova - Bournobat".
The whole Greeks, Armenians and the most of Levantiner left the city 1922 and in the following years. Most Jews of Smyrna emigrated, after Israel was created.

Meine Sephardische Familie kam mit viel Geld von Smyrna via Marseille nach Chile. Wir sind seit 5 oder 6 generationen in Chile geboren. Fast alle haben schon Smyrna vergessen. In Chile wir wurden diskriminiert da wir gehören nicht zu Spanischen ethnischen gruppen. In Chile sind wir auch arm geworden nach Pinochet. In 2006 ich war zufällig in der Turkey wegen meiner ehemaligen arbeit und danach ich konnte nicht mehr meine wurzeln abneigern. Wir haben Chile endlichmal verlassen .

Das Osmanische Reich gewährte Jahrhunderte lang einen sicheren Zufluchtsort den sephardischen Juden, während im vermeintlich zivilisierten Europa antisemitische Progrome tobten. Vermögenssteuergesetz ist eine Schande! Alle osmanische Juden zurück in Kleinasien!
