The homeless situation in Brighton and the housing problem is enormous. Brighton and Hove City Council house vulnerable persons in Brighton in temporary housing facilities owned by private firms. This hostel, owned by Helgar Trading Ltd, give scant comfort or help to their clients, the benefits of whom they receive in terms of housing benefits.
George and Diane, who have been living at the 'temporary' accommodation for over a year take Laurence England to meet another resident and to share with the world the disgusting conditions in which Brighton's homeless (and the children of the poor) are treated.
Every week, the landlord of this hostel asks the residents for a fee, a 'top up' for services provided to the residents. It is hard to see exactly what services the homeless residents are receiving to demand any fee.
