I have often said that excess stress is the cardinal cause of almost all other diseases and health challenges. Stress that is not managed can certainly make existing health conditions much worse. I have worked with thousands of women, for example, in the menopause years, which complained of how their symptoms got much worse when they were going through periods of excess stress. This is often the case with any health concerns a person may have. For this reason, managing stress is of paramount importance. There have been many methods of helping people manage their stress more effectively such as meditation, prayer, relaxation techniques, and even biofeedback. Each of these has its place and proven benefits. Many people think they must devote large periods of time to relaxation type of activities in order to reap benefits. This has been disproved many times. In fact even stopping for just 60 seconds a few times during a stressful day and just focus on your breathing can make a really big difference in how your body manages stress. Prayer groups for stress management have become very popular and have proven to be very helpful in coping with the excess stressors of modern life. One of the most important tools in the management of excess stress is to stay as much as possible in the present moment. I cannot stress to much the profound benefits of being in the now, or of staying in this present moment. Unfortunately, most of us spend a great deal of time and energy being in the past or the future, which is futile since past and future are nothing but figments of the human imagination. The only time any of us have is this single present moment. In fact everything you have ever experienced has taken place in the present moment because we have no other time. Even memories of 20 years ago or longer took place in the present moment because it was the present moment when it took place! While this concept may be a bit odd for some, it is an essential factor in stress management. Many older people live in the past, reminiscing about the good ole days, when in fact, they were also filled with challenges of that day. Younger people live almost constantly in the future, hoping for a better tomorrow, because today is filled with so many challenges. We all know people who are great worriers. They worry about everything including that, which cannot even happen! The amount of excess is greatly multiplied if we either pine for the past or fret for the future. By staying in this present moment, we only need deal with what is in this moment, which greatly limits what we need to focus on. As a biochemist I have looked at how the body manages stress from a chemical point of view. We know that there are several key nutrients and extracts that can help the body better deal with stress. We also know that during periods of excess stress, certain nutrients are consumed by the body in the process. These key nutrients include the B complex vitamins, especially Pantothenic Acid as well as vitamin C and glandular extracts of adrenal and thymus. Herbal extracts such as Kava have also proven to be beneficial in calming the central nervous system without side effects. We have created a society filled with stress from almost every angle and now we are all trying to survive in this environment. Here at The Institute of Nutritional Science we have developed a formula that combines these powerful known stress nutrients into one easy to use supplement. By providing extra potent amounts of key stress nutrients, we can assist the body in both its response and recovery from stressful periods. Many years ago, I taught stress management classes and we learned then that by using the nutrients that support both the central nervous system and the adrenal glands, which are the glands that produce the stress response hormones, the body responded much quicker.
