Some of you are onto the right idea, but the true reason he only did one season was that he wanted to challenge himself. In an interview, he states that he was taught to do the things that scare you most, and in that respect, being Doctor Who was a huge gamble for him. He personally thought he was not funny or charming, two major aspects of Doctor Who and that is why he agreed to try it out. Within twenty years he has had over fifty roles.. he moved on, to find more challenges. Truth. Like it.

That was the one good thing about Eccleston, he buggered off after 1 season. If only they had all done that. ReTarD, Murray Gold, Casanova & Matt were at their best for just 1 season, their first season. After that they should have let new talent takeover.

@mk5721 If some teenage non-actress "popstar" was the lynchpin then it really didn't take much to pin that lynch. There's nothing extraordinary about Billie that no one/thing else could have managed.

@starwarsruls1 It would defeat the purpose if they replaced all the best Doctors with other actors. I don't think anyone would mind the ninth being re-cast though, just have one of the Mitchell brothers play him.

I wonder how many Doctors they'll bring back for the 50th? They might have to get new actors for1,2,3. Maybe even Tom Baker.
