@thomasdm2 They did not have access to the information we have accumulated today. If they were living during the present time, then they would most certainly be atheist/agnostic. People are continuously discovering and answering questions to many ideas, problems, etc around the world. This is leaving less and less room for a higher being (diety, god, etc) to fill in the blanks. If you were the greatest person in the world and you believed in fairies, does that mean fairies are real? No.
