Maria Hyde-Smith is a Program Leader and Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Health & Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Applied Humanities at AUT University. She leads the spa/ wellness discipline within the School of Hospitality and Tourism.
Her professional background includes 21 years working at European ski resorts, and at some of the UK's leading spa and health facilities. Before joining AUT in 1999 she managed and taught at a variety of beauty and spa private training organizations both in the UK and New Zealand.
Maria retains an active involvement in spa/ wellness by contributing to industry working groups. She is an active member of ISPA, ASPA, APSWC, CIDESCO and New Zealand Tourism Research Institute. Her present research addresses wellness offerings within a spa setting and sustainable spa tourism. Other research interests include industry training needs, the connection of the spa and wellness sector to tourism and the consumer willingness to pay for spa environmentally friendly products and services. http://www.balipromotioncenter.com
