This is a video that shows what happens upon detection of a fire within an atrium building here in California. Building codes in the United States require a smoke control system in atriums, high rise buildings, and other structures. Smoke control systems are designed to safely evacuate smoke out of a space during a fire. This video depicts what occurs upon detection of a fire and what building components are connected through the smoke control and fire alarm panel.

  • Don't worry, if you were in an elevator when this happened it would only recall to the ground level and you could push a button to have the smoke guard rise for a short time to let you out.

  • Oh my gosh this is so cool. I would hate the be in a room or in an elevator when everything closes. They should put stopper stations with horns over the pull stations.
