Susan Mazur interviews evolutionary biologist Stuart Newman on the proposition of the new extended synthesis which some view as a threat to the the current synthesis of Darwinian/modern evolution. A must see for those on both sides of the issue. Newman was one of the attendees of the Altenberg 16 summit in Austria in 2008.

Instead of continuing to respond as "just-so" statements, perhaps you'd like to quote or reference wherever it is that Newman states that his prospective work in evolutionary biology is just a mere modification of Neo-Darwinist precepts?

The unfalsifiable commitment to naturalism is currently raising concerns within quantum physics (in phenomena such as quantum non-determinism), in cosmology and evolutionary biology. Regarding the latter, I've sent you a list of relevant references.

  • @JCrownwell: It may be clear to you; it isn't to me. He spends most of his time correcting Mazur's apparent great expectations of an astounding change in the theory to indicate just the intent that I stated; that the synthesis is foundational to his work, not new in itself.

The results of this conference have been around now for a couple of years. What changes have been noted in the scientific literature based upon it? In what way do they threaten this orthodoxy you say is dying?

  • @JCrownwell: Oh, right. Spirituality is going to take over and supply a new theory of gravity which will get us to the outer planets faster. I fear the day.

"What is this tempest indicative of ... ?"

It signals the end of the current reign of the policy of enforced naturalism.

It's becoming evident to people with basic foundational understanding that the scientific orthodoxy is unable to refute arguments demonstrating the unfalsifiability of, not only metaphysical naturalism, but the precepts of methodological naturalism which derive from it. Expect a lot more contention, bile and vitriol from this dinosaur as it goes down fighting.
