You asked "What History?" and I gave examples adding that it was a pretty good one for a midlevel state school. Now Kansas, NC, Kentucky, UCLA while being public schools cannot be confused as "midsized" in terms of Athletic budget. Private schools who normally have higher tuitions don't need to worry as much about size as their recruiting coffers are greater (i.e. Duke)
Anyhow, you asked what history...hope you know now.
still remember that dawan buzzer beater vs seton hall NIT first round game like it was yesterday. I was one of those people rushing the court i was right under the basket when he hit that shot it was incredible.
'46- NIT finals, lost by 1 to Kentucky (NIT was the Tourney. NCAA Tourney then was like the NIT nowadays.)
'87/'88 - Beat Missouri and Syracuse (Coleman/Seikly/Pearl Washington) lost to Duke by 1 in Sweet 16
'98/'99 - Beat #1 seed Kansas (Pierce/La Frenz) in 2nd round, lost to Stanford in Elite 8 (after being up by 6 with 1:30 left) ...That one still hurts.
Quite a history for it's size and non private school funding.
Hopefully Rhody can make it this year to the ncaa tourney GO RHODY
