3 exercises to activate your horse's core muscles 1. Activate young horse's back from the ground to prevent a buck 2. Teach horse to activate muscles without moving their feet
@Kilava1231 um excuse you but massage therapists use tools like this all the time INCLUDING with horses also i tried this on several horses with back pain and they actually enjoyed it and had a lot better movement afterwards trust me im in school to become an equine vet i would never do anything to hurt a horse
@flyingchangeequine91 please look at the recent comments. Certain aspects of these "treatments" are very sketchy and painful,in fact, to the horse. You should use your fingers or nails, not something as hard and stiff as a brush or hoof pick. The belly lift should be performed from back to front, not front to back. These I already knew, and other comments also list other things and further explanations. Please do not continue to copy what this woman shows in this video
I like that you're trying to build core strength, and appreciate what you are trying to do - but you really shouldn't be pressing on the horses spine. It's so so delicate, and we spend so much time trying to keep the saddle and pressure off it - pushing down with pressure will hurt. If you can get someone to do the same thing, you'll find that your skin will bruise.
You can do the same exercises in a much less painful way using certain trigger points with the muscles.
....you just would be scratching on bones -outsch!
3) Dont clap on the lumbal section after activating the lift! It's like yes + no simultaneously to the innervation!
4) All this as an idea off giving gymnastic exercise to your horse is fine, but Donzer shows quite clearly, that he doesn't really appreciate this treatment - - use your fingers, your fingernails, that enough. The main goal ist to activate the nerval innervation of the muscle. Take care of your horses wellbeeing!
Sorry, but as i'm a professional equine osteopath ( hope you native speakers would call it that way) i just ask you to NOT imitate what is suggested in this vid.
1) The abdominal reflex to lift the back should be activated from caudal to cranial / back to front; simple because the abdominal muscles are working in that direction/ order.
2) Never give that impuls on the croup just on the centerline (as it seems to be applicated in the beginning of this second "treatment section") - .,...
if you would like to see this done without jabbing your horse with a brush (!!) watch holistichorseworks with April Battles, she is much more gentle with the horse, and much more effective
