For some time in HR, the literature has been discussing "chief retention officers." Most people would look at the title and think of it as another C*O position - "Chief Retention Officer." Since people leave managers more often than they leave companies, this position should be thought of as an empowering status to be used by managers at all levels of the organization. This should be done in partnership with HR and other tools provided by the organization.
Beaumont is initiating a company-wide launch of a structured dialogue with all 18,000 employees. Broken up into facilitated groups, it is designed to engage the employees around both the change and company strategy. Beaumont executives developed a strategy, but didn't want it to (1) be something that sat on a shelf somewhere or (2) something only understood by executives. Putting employees through a four-hour, facilitated dialogue about the company's strategy has helped new employees and long-term employees reengage with the hospital and healthcare community.
