TYT fans have been asking for qualified people to talk about science on the show. Well, they're finally getting their wish with this week's episode of The Point:

Do liberals and conservatives have different brains? Is science in trouble in America? What is the point of 'asteroid mining'? Cara Santa Maria (senior science correspondent at The Huffington Post) leads this weeks panel to discuss these issues and more with PhD Tim Lee (scientist turned comedian), K.C. Cole (science writer, USC journalism professor), and Max Lugavere (filmmaker, musician, science journalist). Special thanks to Chris Mooney (author of 'The Republican Brain'), Linda Darling-Hammond (professor and author of 'The Flat World In Education'), and Phil Plait (The Bad Astronomy Blog) for sending in points.

It was literal and it was incorrect.

"People don't understand what the word science means. It's a verb and not a noun." - How can you interpret this figuratively?

I don't know how you came up with what she meant, but she is still wrong. ACTIONS creates a lot of things like businesses. People do something in a business to make it work. People do things in science to make it work. However, science is a thing that comprises actions not the action.

    It's figurative, not rhetorical.

i thought about it and i now see the rhetorical (not literal) point she was trying to make. what she meant was that ACTIONS is what creates scientific theories...but now that i've gone back and listened to her example, i'm not so sure i do get it.

She's not even a scientist. She's a media personality with no real knowledge. A sports reporter who reports on NFL games can't play a snap of NFL football, and a columnist for the Huffington Post who writes about science isn't anything more than a laywoman herself.

You can see how ignorant she is by the guests she invites onto the show, probably some personal friends who she just puts titles on to pretend they are 'experts' on anything.

She may know science, but she does not fully understand grammar. Even the smartest people can be stupid in one area or more. Your use of profanity suggest one area your stupid at.

It isn't. She's wrong. It's a methodology. A way to do things, but it isn't an action itself. Kinda like algebra. Algebra is a way of adding and subtracting. Adding and subtracting are actions, but algebra is not.
