Olivier Messiaen: Turangalila-Symphonie (1948) Mvt. 1
Orchestre de lOpera Bastille, dir. Myung-Whun chung, soloists: Yvonne Loriod - piano, Jeanne Loriod Ondes Martenot
Messiaen wrote the following words about this recording of Turangalila-Symphonie: After hearing around two hundred performances of this work, some small changes have been suggested to me. The magnificent version of Turangalila-Symphonie that has now been achieved by Myung-Whun Chung takes account of these modifications, and answers perfectly to all my desires. These are the correct tempos, the correct dynamics, the right feelings and the right joy! Coming after the many excellent interpretations that we already know, this new version, superb from every point of view, can be considered henceforth the definitive account.

  • This is one of the few channels I feel the need to subscribe to because you actually provide incredible music that is difficult to find most other places.

  • @SixSickSixOfficial Thanks! I really appreciate that!

  • @NewMusicXX You're very welcome. Did you happen to study music in school, or are you a professor, or were you just born with a natural amazing taste in music?

  • @SixSickSixOfficial I began to study 20th century music seriously (both analysis and composition) when I was a student at Berklee College of Music in the late 80s. Berklee has a reputatin for being a jazz school, and it is, but they have a marvelous composition program as well. And I am, in fact, a college instructor today, as you guessed. I also read and listen a lot. Thank you for your comments, and thanks for asking!

  • thank goodness DGG actually did a pretty good job capturing the sound of this piece.

  • This Scares ME!

  • @NewMusicXX That makes a lot of sense to me because (in my opinion) Jazz and 20th century music share a lot of similarities. And I could tell that you are professor because there are very few people who appreciate this style of music. I personally studied music business management however it was basically a music theory/history degree. I had some doctoral composition students teach 20th century composition and I was the only one in the class (including the instructor) who enjoyed it.

  • Thanks!!!

analys is from here? :Naxos Records recording by the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra with François Weigel (piano), Thomas Bloch (ondes Martenot) and Antoni Wit (conductor).
