The Waterside Mall has been a fixture of SouthWest Washington, DC since 1962. Now, it's time to move into the future, and Mayor Adrian Fenty holds a public spectacle for the mall's demolition---

but it took a WHILE for it to go (I count at least 6 wrecking-ball hits). Talk about being 'built to last'!!

(PS: Of course, WRC-TV/NBC-4 showed their footage during the evening news, but they MISSED--on purpose--the 'Good Sh*t'!! This is IT!!! heh heh!)

  • notice how there counting seconds is off and you can compare it the to video time!! :P

  • Well, the GOOD thing is that the complex has been completely dusted (heh heh), and now (some 2 years after I took this), 4th Street SW is almost re-opened and a new pair of glass towers are on either side. Also, my WORKPLACE, Arena Stage, is almost re-opened as well. By NEXT JUNE (2010), we should be back there and WATERFRONT (the "new name" for the former mall spot) should be ready for our theater patrons. Kinda a dual-return. I'll video THAT, as well. Keep Watching. ^_^

  • well thats awesome, good for you, and i will keep whatching!!!!

  • I worked in Waterside Mall for 12 years... it was a hideous place.

  • The property in fort wayne indiana now has the biggest fricken walmart supercenter that I have ever seen around these parts. and there is a loews as well, but the tire place that used to be part of the southtown mall is gone as well, it is sad the southside of the city is, many buildings remenecent of the fiftys when they were first built and the area has lots of the small suburban contemperary houses you know the small cookie cutter ones with the nice little bushes around them.

  • tell me about it, They riped a mall down in fort wayne called southtown, I spent almost every other day there before preschool when my aunt would watch me. All attempts to save it failed, even the part they were going to use as a training ground for firefigheters and police was too waterdamaged to be used, it was only thirty years old that mall. it had a thrity million doller lien on it for back taxes, and it had been going down hill since the mid 90s lots of gang activity.

  • I'm so mad. I wish they hadn't torn it down! I spent many a happy day over there. >(

  • built to last..lol..

    wtf is this..??
