I see where you're coming from. But from an Oly lifter's view (I'm assuming...) that they really don't care what their 'Power Clean' is with sumo feet. I can't see someone training for the Olympics and working on a 1RM power clean, by landing in a sumo stance position. Whether you catch it and hold it there or catch it up there and sink into a squat, you still got the bar up there and did all the work.Even in Crossfit if the WOD was 1RM power clean, I wouldn't want my athletes in a sumo stance

Ah right I see what you mean, and yes I agree that in most circumstances keeping proper foot position is best, but if your goal is to simply get as heavy a power-clean as possible - IMHO I still think it's best to split.

My coworkers laughed when I told them I was going to get rid of fat with Atomic Fat Loss, but then they saw the results. Google Atomic Fat Loss to see their reaction. (You should see their shock!)

Think about it.You're saying to sacrifice your footwork just because you don't want to/don't have the strength to catch it in a 1/4 squat.Coach Mike Burgener says,"'A squat clean is only a missed power clean"BUT, if you catch to power clean in a sumo stance, what happens if you miss it? you Fail. But if you catch with feet in a regular squat position and miss, you just sink into a squat. While it's not a "power" clean anymore, you still completed the lift...

Well yes, that's why I said taking a sumo-stance is essential in a heavy power-clean; at some point you'll have to do it or you'll just miss and like you said go into a squat clean. If you enter a squat then it's not a power-clean, see what I mean? And just to clarify I didn't suggest he should do that, I simply suggested his feet may be too wide in the squat position of his clean - it's difficult to get that external rotation of the hips in a wide stance. Thoughts?

if you use a low weight, don't hit yourself in the face pulling it up too fast.

On the hang cleans, since I have never done a hang clean should I start at a significantly lower weight like say 65-85 pounds?
