@CreepinSav I would say you're a loon!

@MrGobot99 Agreed, and Kentucky Ave.
-
@crfhmaritza It is also a play in the phrase of the same name that means to go into a situation without knowing the possible outcome. The song is very heavy in metaphor from start to finish.

@AaronWallace Definitely one of them, but Potter's Field is pretty amazing lyrically.

I would say Jeffrey Lewis does it better

If English isn't your first language, this song is a nightmare to understand, even if you read the lyrics you still can't follow. The awesome thing about this song though, is the fact that you don't need to understand the lyrics to love it.

Looove this song!

It only dawned on my that "Whistling Past the Graveyard" is speaking from the point of view of a TRAIN.
So awesome.

I've heard lots of good Tom Wait's songs, but this is about the straightest up bit of blues I've ever heard him do...which -in my book- ain't a compliment! (Almost as bad a put down as comparing something to an operatic aria!)
Thought maybe it was just a cover, but then checked out a Screamin' Jay Hawkins version w/ lyrics. It's obviously, inimitably,a TW's song.
The lyrics make it better. I feel much the same about Van Morrison,only his individuality 'saves' his blues derived things

man this is better than the screamin jay hawkins version
why is there even a dislike button for this?

Lyrically speaking, I think this song is his true masterpiece.
