WARNING: This video shows my cat after he was euthanized.
NOTE #1: Your comments appear only AFTER approval.

NOTE #2: Some have mentioned that Whitey's ear moved at :06, so he must have still been alive. But you can plainly see that his ear only moved because I pushed it when I petted his head. He was definitely gone by this time; the vet checked for a pulse, there was none, and he pronounced him dead.

ABOUT THE VIDEO:
After 15 years with the little old fella, it seemed appropriate to record this moment. I don't want to offend or upset anyone. This is just something I needed to do, partly so I could share it with my sister who lives out of state. Thanks for your understanding.

P.S. For anyone who wonders, his name is Whitey because of his white nose. His sister has a gray nose that made it look big, so I named her Junior, as in W.C. Fields, Jr. (an actor who had a big nose). But, heheh, when I named Junior, I thought she was a boy! I found out different when I took "him" to be neutered and was told SHE had to be spayed instead! LOL!

From that day forward, Junior became Joony (but I still sometimes call her Junior or Junior Miss), named after the girl in the movie Benny & Joon. That character has a lot in common with my neurotic little Joony.

  • Ruby,

I had to put my 16 year old Simba down today. He went from 10 pounds to around 6 in about 2 months. We had moved out of state 6 months ago and after 7 trips to the "new vet" they think he had stomach cancer or lymphoma. I drove him 600 miles "home" last night so he could be put to sleep by his old vet who cared for him for 10 years. It was his time to go, but so hard for me. He purred the whole car ride home and it was like he was trying to comfort me. Bless all the furry babies, RIP.

  • @Tonysgirlkt -- I'm sooooo sorry!! That's a very long way to go for a very sad chore. But what a loving, caring thing to do for your sweet friend. I think it's lovely you were able to spend those last, precious hours together that way. You ushered Simba to his next life in a very special way. I hope that will always be a treasured memory for you. And I hope other pet owners take a lesson from your devotion!

  • I'm guessing he put Whitney to sleep before putting him down... It's the best way to do it, so they don't feel it. I worked at a shelter for a few years and when we had animals that were really sick and dying, that was how we did it, so they wouldn't feel any pain from the shot. It's not a fun experience, and I still remember each one I've done as if it happened yesterday.

Just know your kitty is in a better place, and no longer suffering. Hope you find happiness with a new furry friend.

  • @cavaliers60 -- Yes, Whitey was sedated first, and I held him in my arms while he fell asleep. FYI, this is the second video; the first one -- "My cat Whitey - His last day with me" -- shows Whitey right before sedation, when I explain what happened to him. Then I turned off the camera and just spent time alone with him, about 5 minutes. He was totally out of it by then. I only turned the camera back on so people could experience the outcome with me, and I could share my grief.

  • Thank you for sharing this Video with your sister, and keeping it on file...it's hard when we lose our family members..some people don't understand that our pets are not just our pets, they are FAMILY too...Whitey is having a healthy fun life over the Rainbow Bridge, that's where our 4 month old Siamese (Martouf) is. He passed 2 wks ago. From an over the counter vaccine I bought at a local feed store. :(

  • @HalokaKana -- I'm so sorry you lost Martouf. How incredibly sad!! It's good to know our beloved friends are no longer suffering, though, and can spend the rest of eternity in total joy and peace. :)

  • In each city and town there should be a place for a memorial mural either outdoors or in where there could be painted a small portrait of each loved and cherished animal friend we've known and lost, and there would of course be room for at least a few thousand sweet beloved faces. Then when that fills up, move on to another wall. This could be funded by charging a small fee to put the portrait, and you could paint your own or have an artist do it.
