Watch as a pedestrian almost gets nailed by train!

ATCS showed somebody coming off Track-3 at South Dania and lined all the way to Golden Glades and possibly beyond as Tompkins wasn't coming at all off the primary server nor my mobile kit so I drove south on University Dr. to intercept it at the NW 27 Ave. crossing. As I neared Opa-Locka, I started picking up Tompkins and realized that not only was that southbounder headed for Hialeah, but there was also a northbounder lined out of Hialeah to the siding at Golden Glades. I got to the crossing just in time:

CSX Miami Subdivision
Opa-Locka, FL
NW 27th Ave. (Unity Blvd.) SX 1029.42

9:22 PM
Southbound Track-2
CSX Q453-12 Mixed Freight
Waycross, GA-Miami, FL
CSXT #7833 CW40-8
CSXT #7??? CW40-8
17 cars incl. 7 ethanol tanks

After Q453 had cleared, I decided to loop back around to the crossing. I proceeded south a short distance, made a U-turn, headed back north, crossed the tracks, made another U-Turn and returned to the same spot as before. This catch would prove to be far more eventful than the first for as O720 was only seconds from the crossing, a pedestrian went below the lowered gates and darted out in front of the train. As he did, he dropped his cell phone on the tracks. This moron actually stopped on the tracks to pick it up:

9:26 PM
Northbound Track-1
CSX O720-12 Miami-Delray switcher
CSXT #4307 GP39-2
20 cars incl. 15 ethanol tanks
1 very lucky pedestrian

That was it for me until later. I went back to my folks' house to shower and get a bite. I would later set out for some more action before the night was over. Be sure to check out Part II. :-)
