This clip shows ammunition being "slung" out by Chinook (CH-47) aircraft from the 2/17 Artillery "Hill Position" at Camp Radcliff, An Khe, Vietnam to the battalions dispersed batteries at LZ Scheuller (LZ Road), LZ Action, and Vinh Thanh Special Forces Camp in 1967-1968. The "hooks" would also bring expended 105mm howitzer shell casings and 155mm powder canisters back to Camp Radcliff. The job of hooking up the cargo slings by the Ammo Section of Service Battery, 2/17FA was somewhat risky because the helicopter might hover too low and crush the soldier attaching the sling to the helicopter's hook, or the individual could get a drastic shock of static electricity which could blow him across the LZ. Before hooking up the sling, he would have to discharge the static electricity with a grounded rod.
