There was never a group consensus to tell this to the class, but I couldn't keep quiet. We cheated. There is an addon in Firefox that will refresh the page on a regular interval, so we each gave the video about 1000 hits and then called it good. We knew we couldn't beat 30,000, so we gave up eventually.

The title and tags are an easy draw-in for the Youtube viewer, but the content is extremely catchy as well. The video "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne continues to be on Most Viewed Videos, not only having her song play in the background, but part of her actual music video is essential to getting views. Lube wrestling, kittens, and avril lavigne are sadly what viewers want. What is this saying about our popular culture and society today?

Written expression is closed down on YouTube. Its 500 character limit, and sandlot culture, produces a dumbing-down for the word nearly impossible to remedy. So, VISUAL WRITING reigns. In this highly entertaining form, meaning is lost to feeling that is buttressed by the sound of music and cut to the speed of final cut pro.

The writer's strike is a perfect example. Youtube enables fans to put up corp videos, the corporations react by putting up their own sites w/ better video and the writers react by demanding more revenue that is now being made indirectly because of Youtube.
