Ladies and gentlemen, I am extremely proud to present the most ambitious project I have worked on to date. I give you "The Star Spangled Symphony".

I've wanted to do a project based on The "Star Spangled Banner" for a long time, but the challenge was always a bit daunting. With such a deep appreciation for the anthem, if I was going to do a project based on it, I wanted to give it every bit of respect it deserved. That's probably the main reason why it took so long to get off the ground. The final version you see now is the result of me thinking way outside the box. I wanted to take it so far above and beyond anything I've ever worked on before, so I knew going into it that it was going to be a long and tough road. I had plenty of successes and frustrations and redesigns and headaches, and in the end, I am completely thrilled with how it turned out.

Fun facts about the project:
number of years I've wanted to do an anthem project: 4
number of times I went back to the drawing board: 3
computers used: 3
computers that couldn't handle the strain and died: 1
computers purchased: 1
total number of files that make up the project: 332,940
hard drive space used: 382.5 GB
hard drives purchased: 2
hard drives that crashed: 0 (woohoo!!)
total length of footage shot: 3 hours, 10 minutes, 59 seconds
total render time: 1,098 hours, 34 minutes
neon green poster board used for the greenscreen: 43
number of times the greenscreen fell apart: 2
number of days wearing a suit: don't ask
bottles of Excedrin purchased: 4
number of people asking me when the project will be finished: lost count

- - Frequently Asked Questions - -
Why are there no instruments?
--The look that I was going for was "air guitar for the orchestra".

Why are the flags hanging in reverse?
--This seems to be the biggest critique of the video. I honestly did not know there were etiquette rules when hanging the flag. Definitely a lesson learned.

Why don't you have 50 characters for the 50 states?
--Actually, when designing this, I wanted the music itself to be the 50th "character". The 50 states were not ignored.

How many people helped you work on this?
--Zero.

Debut album "Improv" is now available. Check my profile for details.

  • whoever asked about the way the flag was hanging, when you hang a flag sideways, the stars are supposed to be on the upper right...so you did it correctly, but seriously this is awesome!!!!!

  • Actually, I learned the hard way that proper flag etiquette does put the stars on the left side when it's hanging vertically. I just never knew about flag etiquette when I made this. Live and learn. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • What music program did you use for this?

  • I used Fruity Loops with the Orchestral plugin.

  • I can't believe you're only to about 3600 views... this is so completely awesome!!! Congrats!!!

  • Maybe you can help increase that number by spreading the word. ;)

  • @tylersgirl091 You have been misinformed. The Union is always to be to the Flag's right. Viewer's Left. So on the left side of the flag while looking at it. It is a cool video. But it is important for the flag to be displayed correctly. There is a lot of symbolism that is part of our great flag that needs to be recognized.

  • hey the flag with the stars on the right means comming home from battle and on left means going to battle they are reversible on military uniforms today,

  • Wow! That was AMAZING! Like really I don't think I have or ever will see something as good as this!!

  • 1 word AMAZING Thumbs Up If You Agree....

  • This is brilliant (other than the flag hanging the wrong way of course!)

    ;-)

  • I subscribed after seeing the two flute trios and this. Brilliant arrangements mate.

  • @rburkley001 I guess you won't be spreading the word then.

  • Love the drum solo at 3:26 :)

  • You know, it's beautiful work, but I think it really is worth the re-rendering of those scenes which show the flag backwards. It has about the same visual effect as if this wonderful symphony were plagued by one instrument that is just plain out of tune with the others.

  • this is great! you did an awesome job making this, very creative. as far as flag etiquette goes (and I am sure you already know) just read the United States code : Title 4, Chapter 1. section 8 for more details on how to properly display an American flag. Sadly in this day in age no one knows even the basics of Flag etiquette, nor do most people care. Keep up the good work though.
