9/11 Motorcycle Rally to Ground Zero, 2005

September 11, 2005, over 3,000 motorcycles left from Carmel, N.Y. for Ground Zero in Manhattan. The roads were closed for us, and people lined the road cheering us as we passed. I was looking for a film clip on youtube and couldn't find one... then remembered I used my cheap HP camera on the ride down. So I'm sorry... it's pretty grainy and dark... but maybe it gets the feeling of the rally a bit. BMW R80-RT.

I was riding my bicycle on rt 301 coming back to Carmel when I heard the rolling thunder. I stopped just before the causeway and watched and saluted as the bikes went by. it was awesome and I never saw anything like it. I had a flag on the back of my bike and some bikers saluted back.

I have a moto of my own now, and have been wondering if there's a rally planned for this year.

Paulo: Sorry I did not see your post until November. But they did not do a rally again... so it looks like 2005 was the last. But there are still some great rallys in the area, like the Ramapo 500 in September, the Crotona Midnight Run in February (brutal, but an experience to remember), and many poker runs. See you out there?

By coincidence I happened to be looking at the traffic cams on Google earth and I saw a massive rally in NYC. I didn't know what it was about and couldn't record it so I just watched, It was very impressive indeed.
