On call 24/7 for the past six years, three senior citizens have made history by greeting nearly one million U.S. troops at a tiny airport in Maine. Filled with unexpected turns, their uplifting and emotional journey demonstrates the meaning of community at a time when America needs it most.

  • The way our culture discards the elderly like yesterdays garbage is a travesty. I guess the fear of being too close to someone that close to death is more than most can handle. Let's all be more courageous and become a friend to an old person. My guess is, as with most attempts that first cause trepidation, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. After all, they were our age once. And, if we're lucky, we'll all be their age some day. I am now stepping off my soap box.

  • I've literally watched this trailer 15 times and it gets me every time. Everyone needs to hear this story!!

  • A couple of my friends and I went and joined the bangor troop greeters and greeted 4 or 5 flights last year as part of a senior project we were doing to raise awareness about supporting our troops and getting a younger generation involved in that support. It was an awesome experience- both being there to welcome the troops and getting to work with the amazing and generous people who give so much of their time at all hours of the day to do this! Thanks for letting us greet with you!
