EfficientGovNow - A Conversation with Round 1 Winner Westshore Fire District

Journalist Bob Paynter traveled to Bay Village to chat with Mayor Deborah Sutherland about the progress being made with EfficientGovNow Round 1 winner Westshore Regional Fire District.

The Westshore Council of Governments, a collaboration of seven communities in Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties, is working toward a comprehensive regionalization of its entire Fire and EMS operations, which covers more than 75 square miles and serves more than 250,000 residents. Presently, the collaboration has hired a consultant to examine opportunities and obstacles, to recommend how complete a merger should be pursued and to help implement the transition.

The EfficientGovNow program is a competitive grant awards program that encourages and accelerates government collaboration, cooperation and efficiency by providing rounds of funding to government collaboration projects as selected by the residents of Northeast Ohio. Round 2 of the program, to be held in the spring of 2010, will provide as much as $330,000 total in funding to as many as four collaborative government projects from throughout Northeast Ohio.
