Vietlish Adventures - Episode 6 - Seatrip 2009 Conference at University of California, Riverside

Vietlish personalities Joseph Hieu Dinh (JH) & Maria Tran (MT) will be heading to the United States in early October 2009.

JH anh MT have been invited to accompany Dr. Ashley Carruthers (Australian National University) in presenting a paper at University of California in Riverside. The paper is titled: Vietlish: New Media of the Vietnamese Disapora and will be a feature at SEATRIP 2009 (South East Asia: Text Rituals and Performances).

SEATRIP 2009 is a three-day international conference which gathers faculty, scholars, students, artists who share an ongoing interest in arts and humanities and are actively engaged with the languages and expressive cultures of Southeast Asia.

Maria Tran said: Im honoured to know that we are not just entertainment personalities but our works are also relevant in the academic world.

It is very exciting, as we will get an opportunity to extensively network at an international level, to represent the Western Sydney Asian communities, and to showcase Vietlish an our recent projects, Vietnamese Stories & Vietnamese Storycubes.

Joseph Hieu Dinh said: We are very grateful from all the community support received from our projects, and also for our trip in the US. It will be a promising trip as we strive to take on the world and connect with Vietnamesy people to the Land Down Under.

Besides participating at the conference, Team Vietlish will be all over Orange County Little Saigon to network and to continue our online show. The official website will be regularly updated on our whereabouts, and we dare our American friends to meet us and try some vegemite !

Team Vietlish is also doing a call-out to Vietnamese families living around Orange County (Westminster, Santa Ana, Fountain Valley, etc) to host 2-3 days of their stay where Vietlish segments will be stationed at. Interested families are invited to contact Team Vietlish with the details below, for an application form. A telephone interview will be conducted to see if you are a suitable candidate.

I reckon Joey is better than the energizer bunny. Vegemite is like rotting vegetable matter, with salt. Tim Tams are worth that wish for another one of those.
