hi! yep i did hear of castlevania - i think that that was the curse of the 2d platformer back then, horrendously fiddly when it came to what acted as collision detection when landing on a platform ( or not ) or making contact with a nasty!
That's one thing that your post brought back to me - the sheer frustration of trying to obey the game's stern 'logic' to avoid losing a life ( like the bit with the rope & the crusher ) only to lose one because you did! you're right about underwurlde too

3:43 i couldnt stop laughing!!

The shark should have had a game to itself. What a waste of a great character. That dreaded wall was so unfair. Excellent review once again!

silly shootan~
did you ever play underwurlde by the legendary 'ultimate play the game' team? i think they've now become rare... anyway it was a spectrum platformer, and a hell of an annoying game! enemies didn't make you lose a life directly, instead they knocked you all over the place until eventually you fell down a pit and died. or even worse they let you go up on a bubble before finally knocking you off when you got to the top.
then again that business with the reappearing walls and the random crushers...

@Poseiden2 Hahaha, oh god. Is there really anything more infuriating than knockbacks? Not a speccy game, but Castlevania: Circle of the Moon made me very, very angry by virtue of that. (Massive rooms, tiny platforms, knocked back a million miles whenever you touch anything.)
Wasn't underwurlde part of that series that included Saber Wulf?
