They should spend thousands of dollars on gear and never sell records and keep their jobs at McDonalds and definitely never have enough money to tour. They should remain obscure in their own hometowns drinking away their creativity by night. Also, everyone should download their music for free to ensure they can't pay their rents.

Actually bands do not really make money off of the records or songs that they sell. All of that money goes to the label. The way that they make money is by being signed and going on tours. Of course some of the profit still goes to the label and any company that they had fund the tour, unless they are big enough to have a company fund them in order to get advertising, and the company will then pay the band.

So in short, you are wrong about downloading free music and hurting bands.
