Coming Home on the Wings of a Song*

Coming Home on the Wings of a Song, written and played by Kit on Duncan & Son spamitar, and dedicated with great respect and budding friendship to Tim.

Had you not asked me to compare the two "real" dulcitars I have, I would not have even thought about making dulcitars myself. My son J and I have had SO much fun figuring out how to make these little instruments! We've learned alot, and we've laughed alot, and to be honest, there were a few times I even pouted a little. J didn't pout - he forged ahead like a man. I - did not. But I didn't pout very long, and after a little while we were back at it until we had - this.

We are, obviously, not luthiers. We are not wood craftspeople. We are just part of a little family who really enjoy experimenting with new things, and having alot of fun together.

Now, about this particular little song. I was test driving Tim's new dulcitar and I got the idea of playing it into the microphone, but it didn't pick up very well. Then it accidentally bumped up against the microphone and made a pretty healthy note. An hour later Ella Rose, dressed up in her best Hillbilly Opry duds, was holding the microphone right ON the bottom of the spam can. The mic is attached to a really old and mostly broken karaoke machine we bought at a Goodwill store for $2.50. We were pretty taken with the strength of the tone on such substandard equipment. We call this the "hillbilly electric dulcitar!" Or the "electric hillbilly dulcitar" - I get confused....

  • absolutely beautifiully done

  • Doooooooood!!!!!! Beautiful instrument!!! U are such an artist. I would love for you to make me a spamitar. Sounds great!!!!!

  • VOCABHILARITY!!!!! Now, THAT'S a keeper. I must write that down in my.... Oh. I forgot. I got rid of THAT one in 2003.

  • "Gummish" and "Sunnified" ... there you go again. :O) Two new words have just been added to my "vocabhilarity"

  • I have no idea what "gummish" means - I meant to say "grumpish" - I think my r and my p ran away with each other - not to worry - we'll find them in the springtime!

  • LOL! Well, then I am living my religion, I reckon! I have taken it to be my calling to splash a little stardust about and if I can conjure a grin or a giggle, then my day has been well spent. Knowing how gummish the winter can be, I believe I practice a little harder when it's cold and damp than when it's all sunnified and warm! So glad to visit with you a bit again!

  • You make me laugh and feel happy. In the midst of winter that is quite a fete (some may even consider it a miracle :O)
