Christopher Hitchens (born 1949) is an author, journalist and literary critic. Currently living in Washington, D.C., he has been a columnist at Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, World Affairs, The Nation, Slate, Free Inquiry, and a variety of other media outlets. Hitchens is also a political observer, whose books — the latest being "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything" — have made him a staple of talk shows and lecture circuits.

In 2009 Hitchens was listed by Forbes magazine as one of the "25 most influential liberals in U.S. media." The same article noted, though, that he would "likely be aghast to find himself on this list" and that he "styles himself a radical", not a liberal.

and by the way, you don't need to slice a person in pieces to torture it. it can be done with few bruises and excoriations, it's all about making the subject feel hopless and about to die.

mental torture is efficient and leaves deep marks. I was about to drown once and I still have the memories of that experience clear in my mind. the agony, fear and feeling oh hopelessness is undescribable...

Marc is an idiot.waterboarding is not just the act itself which is awfull by itself,is the mental side as well: you are being kept prisoner by your enemies, not knowing what shall happen with you. when they start waterboard you you don't know when it shall stop or if it shall stop. if someone who has a safety word got obviously marked by experience,the whole blindfoleded and drown stuff how about the one that has no means to stop it? can Marc now the fear and agony that the prisioner feels then?

A prisoner sentenced to death participated in an experiment, they wanted to see how much blood a man could lose and still live. He was told he could walk free if he survived.

They strapped him down and cut him on his leg. They also played a liquid dropping sound through. He thought it was his blood dripping. The cut was equivalent to a scratch. The prisoner was dead when they checked up on him, turned out he died of fear.

Mental abuse has a much more profound impact compared to physical torture.

All the things that 'Marc' described were prime examples of physical torture.

Waterboarding is more like mental torture as far as I understand.

Testing mental torture in a controlled environment should calm the mind somewhat, thus reducing its effect.

But now imagine a helpless person being interrogated in this way. IT IS torture.

This man doesn't understand that being water-boarded has insidious effects on the emotions and the mind. They're not trying to kill you at once but make you get as close to death as possible.
