Here is my first attempt to try to describe the TV method in a video. I want to get better at talking about second language acquisition and language learning like Steve Kaufmann. Some of my thoughts may not be well connected or well said, so please forgive me. This was my first time speaking about the TV method. I was not able to cover everything in 10 minutes. I actually spoke for about 13 minutes, but I cut off the end so I wouldn't need more than one video. I also cut out a few seconds where it took me time to recall the word "unproven" in the beginning of the video. The rest is uncut. I hope you enjoy my very first video about the TV method.

Be sure to visit my blog where you can read all about the TV method.

  • I was actually thinking about developing a method just like this one but you beat me to it. This is actually the ancient method of language learning without any supplements or subtitles. Keep up the good work!

  • Hello Keith! Great video! Sometimes, translations get in the way to learn a language. If you use TV to learn them, you learn from real situations. Particularly about Chinese, if you have some knowledge of "kanjis", the visual element is twice: the situation and the "kanjis" appearing in that situation. I used to watch a Chinese drama years ago called 北京香港愛情線. I recommend! Greetings from Miyazaki!

  • Start from 0 is very hard with this method...

  • 有難う。このビデオはとても効果的ですよ。僕はこれをしませんけど未来へ多分この方法を使うつもりです。

  • i admit that english and norwegian are pretty similar languages, so im not so sure i'd have had the same successs with less transparent languages. but we shall see because i'm planning on using the same metjhod on romanian next. wish me luck !

  • good video. and i agree with what you're saying. i'm english and i spoke no foreign languages until i decided on a similar approach in norwegian. only i mainly used radio podcasts. by devoting myself to hours and hours and hours of listening only, i have reach a pretty high standard of comprehension and i can honestly say i have NEVER studied a word list in the 2 years ive beeen learning. great method. listen , listen, listen .
