Native to Austin, TX, Jeff Warren Johnston is a performing songwriter primarily interested in the classic outlaw country sound made famous by icons such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Merle Haggard. Combine these influences with rockers Tom Petty, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and the Beatles to get the essence of his distinctive sound. Jeff has performed solo and with a band at several of Austin's popular venues including Jovita's, Hill's Cafe, Carousel Lounge, Saxon Pub, Rutamaya, Roadhouse Rags, Hole in the Wall, Steamboat, and many others.
In September 2010, Jeff met with Robert Earl Keen's guitarist/producer Rich Brotherton and began working on his first fully professional project. The album includes performances from many of Austin's elite players, including Bill Whitbeck, Tom Van Schaik, Warren Hood, Kevin Smith, Lisa Pankratz, Marty Muse, Leeann Atherton, and Rich Brotherton himself. To date, one single titled "Them Tears" has been completed. The full album is slated for release in late 2011.
This particular song is inspired by the hope-inducing anthems of writers such as Roy Orbison and John Lennon.
LYRICS:
Everybody's got problems they all have to face.
Everyone's got a big dream they just have to chase.
Everyone's got a demon that haunts them from their past.
Only you can determine how long that will last.
Don't worry 'bout me, think about yourself now.
I'll be glad if I can help out.
Just don't let yourself down.
You'll make it, you'll see. Keep climbin' to the top floor.
Keep knockin' on that steel door, till it come crashin' down.
Everybody's got somethin' that they want to say.
Everyone's got a debt now, that they have to pay.
Everyone's got a reason for failin' to succeed.
Unless they're pullin' their bootstraps, and rollin' up their sleeves.
Don't worry 'bout me, think about yourself now. I'll be glad if I can help out.
Just don't let yourself down.
You'll make it, you'll see. Keep climbin' to the top floor.
Keep knockin' on that steel door, till it come crashin' down.
And if you never make it, there's still no reason to cry.
All that matters in this life, is how much you try, try, try.
Don't worry 'bout me, think about yourself now. I'll be glad if I can help out.
Just don't let yourself down.
You'll make it, you'll see. Keep climbin' to the top floor.
Keep knockin' on that steel door, till it come crashin' down.
