Last fall vandals set fire to the treasured youth camp of the Baptist Church in Smolensk, Russia. Not daunted by the setback, the church leaders set out to rebuild the camp. With financial help from the Outreach Foundation, a mission arm of the Presbyterian Church USA and White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC, building supplies were purchased and the rebuilding project began in spring, 2009. Presently, they are out of money. They need financial help to get the building enclosed by snowfall. Please contribute. You can make a significant difference in the lives of many Russian children and youth with your contribution.

@milekrizman That which is of the public realm: i.e. roads, fire department, police, military; those things should be managed by a government. But my healthcare isn't a public affair, it is my personal affair. I am responsible for my health. I don't trust some worthless, crook politician with my healthcare. As for education, as long as it is for children (minors) I'm ok with it being publicly available. But then how do we limit what is public and what isn't for children? It's a hard discussion.

@milekrizman It doesn't work that way with healthcare. Socialized healthcare destroys price controls, and the cost of the care itself skyrockets. The government then also begins to ration care. This is how it works in Canada and Western Europe. I have a RIGHT to manage my own healthcare. I don't expect YOU to pay for it.
Healthcare is available to everyone. That's why I am getting an education and working hard, and saving my money instead of squandering it.

@ignati123 As I said, sickness doesn't ask if You are rich or poor. If You got some disease, not Your fault, and You don't have any money to pay, is it Your fault? Health care system should be financed through taxes, like in rest of civilized world. Why should only rich have quality health care? As I said, free education, health care, water and electricity for everyone. Things like health care, railways, post office...etc. should not be private, but public, available to everyone.

@ignati123 Yes, that's a difference between USA and Europe. Americans are very religious, so majority of free of charge health care institutions are religious based. In Europe they are free and equal for everyone. Michael Moore did a great documentary 'Sicko' in which he describes difference between American and European and Canadian medical system. He says that in USA they have public libraries, schools, post offices and fireman. Why not health care system like in France?

@milekrizman I would basically agree. Out of charity I would seek to help those children and the poor, however I would not be justified if I stole from one richer than I and gave it to the poor.
In the end, there is a difference between possessing the self-emptying love of God and therefore being charitable, and having a government legislate "charity."

@ignati123 In my opinion education for children and health care should be free of charge and equal for everyone, no matter of how rich they are. Of course, there is no such thing as free lunch as Americans say, but ALL children need education and ALL people need free health care, because sickness doesn't ask if you are rich or poor. Of course, everything else should be a matter of debate, but public schooling and health care should be available to everyone.

@milekrizman Entitlement syndrome is when people believe that they are entitled to things such as: money, food, healthcare, housing. They think that they should steal from the rich, or anyone who has money, and re-distribute the wealth amongst themselves. This philosophy is destructive.

@milekrizman So if you are actually an atheist then why do you push Protestantism in Eastern Europe?
About Hitchens: all of these atheist authors are attacking straw men. They are not not refuting Orthodox Christianity. All they do is pick things that have nothing to do with Orthodox Christianity (like Protestant doctrines, R. Catholic Crusades, etc.) and try to tell people that the very concept of God is a delusion.

@ignati123 What is entitlement syndrome? I am from Croatia. I was raised as a Catholic, although now I have same convictions as Mr. Christopher Hitchens on religion. I read his great book 'God is not great' at it is awesome! Instead of Bible and Qur'an, this book should be read by ever man interested in religion.
