The way George makes references to 'writing in a group," "a smart audience will appreciate it," and "dumbing down for a mass audience," always made me think that this was a little in-joke among the writers. I imagine one writer came up with the "jerk store" line and everyone else made fun of it, so they decided to throw it in there. Is this mentioned in any kind of episode commentary?
